Adding Clay To Your Soap
I love adding clay to my soap for many reasons.
- I love the beautiful, muted, neutral, earthy colors. I find them very calming and grounding.
- Clays have a lot of benefits for clarifying the skin, and cleaning pores. They are filled with beneficial minerals and I love the idea of adding something so simple and natural to my skin to get the benefits.
- It’s a wonderful way to personalize the soap, make it unique, and give it a little touch that expresses me and my interests, and love for all things natural.
If you’ve never added clay to your soap, this article will explain how to do it.
First off, what kind of clay should you add? There are SO many options to choose from and I suggest you try what’s available to you. Here are a few of the most available options: Pink clay, green clay, bentonite clay, Moroccan clay.
How much should you add? There is no specific rule, and feel free to experiment with the amounts. The more you add, the darker the color. I like to start with 1-2 tsp/ pound of soap.
How do you add it? The best way to add clay to your soap is to mix the amount of clay you are going to use with 1 TBS of liquid oil from your recipe. Mix it well and make sure to break up any clumps. Do this while you are waiting for your oils to reach the right temperature and set it aside. Then added it to your soap when you reach light trace. Pour the oil and clay mixture in the middle of your batter, place your hand mixed write on top of it, and begin to blend. Move your blender around in your pot to mix the clay evenly in your batter.
And that’s it. It’s really quite simple. Do you like adding clay to your soap? Which ones are your favorite?
