5 Tips for Starting a Business
You’ve been making soap for sometime and your friends and family have been asking you to make more and encouraging you to start selling. So now you’re thinking of starting your own soap business and becoming an entrepreneur. My friend, your life will change forever, in a good way :). Here are some tips to get you started.
1. Know what you want.
Start by having a vision. Where do you want to be in 5 years? What does success mean to you? Do you want to have a small business you can run from your home? Do you want to have a small shop? Do you want to sell wholesale? You can’t get to where you want to be without having a clear idea of where that is. Write it down, describe it, and don’t be afraid to write down something that sounds crazy. You can do anything if you set your mind to it.
2. Learn what you don’t know.
Get ready.. You’re going to have to learn a lot! Especially if this is your first time at starting a business. But I promise you it’s so much fun. Just be open to learning what you don’t know and asking for help whenever you need it.
3. Surround yourself with like minded people.
Community and mentors are so important. Surround yourself with others that are starting a business. Their love, support and encouragement is going to save you many many times down the road. Entrepreneurship is not easy. There are lots of ups and downs in this journey, and it’s important that you have those to encourage you to get back up.
4. Accept challenges.
There will be many challenges on the way. You are growing and your business will be growing. You’ll be faced with challenges that will test how much you really want this. Simplify the problems and take each challenge one day at a time. Just don’t stop, don’t give up. Take small steps towards your dream everyday. Important things take time. And this is important.
5. Find a healthy work life balance.
Please try to rest. And take opportunities to have fun. To burn yourself out. Try to keep weekends for pleasure, and getting creative in other ways than making soap. I know first hand that this is hard. But trust me on this: Taking breaks and engaging in activities that are not related to your business will bring you back more refreshed and more creative in your business.
I’d love to hear from you. Which one of these tips was most interesting or unexpected to you?
